Attendance is expected of every student enrolled as a member of a class or organization, as well as work experience. Students are expected to participate in activities and field trips unless they are on Campus Leave Restriction (CLR). Attendance will be recorded as an official grade and will be kept as a permanent grade on the students’ transcripts. Every student may not be capable of an A in every subject, but every student is capable of an A in attendance. Every student will start each nine-week period with 100 points. (A)
ABSENCES & TARDIES are given when students are absent or tardy to a class or work without a valid excuse. They will have the following points deducted from their attendance grade:
For Classes & Work
- 1 point deduction = one unexcused tardy
- 2 point deduction = more than ten (10) minutes late, but attend at least half of the class
- 3 point deduction = one unexcused absence
For Chapels
- 1 point deduction = one unexcused tardy to Chapel
- 2 point deduction = one unexcused absence to Chapel
Please note: Any doctor or dentist appointment mustbe approved by the Curriculum Committee prior to the appointment date. Also, a note mustbe turned into the Registrar’s office in order to get the absence/tardy excused.
If for any reason the teacher is delayed, students must remain in the classroom unless instructed otherwise by administration. In other words, THERE IS NO TEN-MINUTE RULE FOR TEACHERS.
An attendance list will be posted daily on the Attendance Bulletin Board with the names of students who have been counted absent or tardy the day(s) before. Also, you can check RenWeb daily to see your attendance. To have the absence or tardy excused, the student must do the following:
1. Obtain an excuse form (not an attendance printout) from the Registrar’s office.
2. Fill out the excuse form and turn it in to the Registrar’s office when completed. If a note from the doctor/dentist or parent is required, it should be turned in as well.
Only the Registrar’s office can determine whether or not an absence or tardy is excusable. Parents may request that an absence be excused, but the Registrar’s office will make the determination as to whether it is excused or not. (Excused absences should be limited to illness, family emergencies and bad weather.)
Students will be given five (5) days to get an absence or tardy excused, after which time the grade will not be changed. Please remember to check the skip lists and RenWeb daily so you do not miss this deadline. Exceptions will be made only when absolutely necessary and approved by administration.
ATTENDANCE GRADES affect many aspects of a student’s life on campus and are part of the student’s permanent grade record. Two points will be added to the attendance grade for each three days of perfect attendance (no unexcused absences or tardies).
A (90-100 points) - A student will receive a certificate at the end of each semester.
C (70-79 points) - The student will be dorm bound for one week, except for classes, meals, work and worship services in addition to CLR. Parent and student will be notified and it will be noted on RenWeb.
D (60-69 points) - The student will be room bound for one week, except for classes, meals, work and worship services, in addition to CLRand probation. Parent and student will be notified and it will be noted on RenWeb.
F (0-59 points) - A student who receives an F is automatically withdrawn from school. Re-admittance will be by Dean’s Council action only; re-admittance is not automatic. A parent/ student conference may be required. The student’s attendance grade will be returned to the C level. If the student loses further points resulting in a second F, he/she will no longer be allowed to continue as a student and will not be considered for re-admittance for the remainder of the school year.
*Campus Leave Restriction (CLR) – Students will be placed on Campus Leave Restriction for six weeks from the date the B grade was incurred. Students on Campus Leave Restriction will NOT allowed to leave campus for field trips, tours, club parties, spiritual retreats, athletic events, town trips, service projects, or to go recruiting. Students will be allowed to leave campus for homeleaves, medical appointments, Senior Survival, mission trips, community service projects occurring during the Sabbath hours (sunset Friday to Sunday Saturday) and required all-school events. Village students who are on CLR will not be allowed to check out dormitory students.
Holding elected offices – If a student fails to retain an A in attendance on posted grades (quarter and semester), they jeopardize the right to remain in office and will be placed on probation. They can be placed on probation, only once. As long as their attendance grade has not dropped to the next level, they may remain in office.
If the attendance grade has dropped to the next level, the student will no longer be allowed to hold that office.
