The Endowment funds listed below are open endowments and can be added to at any time. Additionally, new endowments can be started at any time
Samuel Aitchison Worthy Student Endowment was started by Virginia Delgado in memory of her brother, Samuel, who drowned in the Shenandoah River in 1948 while a student at SVA. (6/30/89)
W. C. Hannah Worthy Student Endowment was established in Prof Hannah’s memory by alumni who were students during the years that he was principal of SVA (1927-1952), and was spearheaded by the class of 1944. (5/18/94)
Ellen Quackenbush Carey Music Endowment was started by Ellen’s mother, Dorothy Bramble Quackenbush, class of 1926, and Ellen’s sister, Jean Quackenbush Strickland, class of 1950, in memory of Ellen, class of 1964, to recognize Ellen’s love of music. (4/4/95)
Thoma Suzanne Alderman Worthy Student Endowment was started in Thoma’s memory by her mother, Evelyn Haskell. Thoma attended the elementary school at SVA and had many friends who attended SVA in the late 60’s and early 70’s who will remember her. (8/18/95)
Wallace V. and Myrtle Smith Worthy Student Endowment was established by the class of 1946 in memory of Wallace Smith who taught at SVA from 1940-1949. (5/1/96)
Frank and Emily Banzhaf Worthy Student Endowment was established by Dale and Connie Twomley in honor of their aunt and uncle. Dale was principal at SVA from 1974-1978 and is again principal of SVA. (5/1/96)
Carolyn Madden Nash Music Endowment was established by friends and family of Carolyn Madden Nash, class of 1963. Carolyn was a piano teacher and the scholarship is awarded to a student who shows exceptional musical ability. (8/21/96)
Lester Patton Worthy Student Endowment was established in memory of Lester Patton, Class of 1952, by friends and family after Lester’s death. (4/8/97)
John and Vilas Mansfield Worthy Student Endowment was established by the family of John and Vilas Tucker Mansfield to honor their memory and to help current SVA students with tuition costs. Vilas was a graduate of the class of 1925. (3/8/99)
Clarence and Elsie Jenkins Pohle Worthy Student Endowment was established in memory of Elsie, who was a graduate of the class of 1934, and her husband, Clarence. They remembered SVA in their will by establishing this fund to help current SVA students with tuition. (6/30/99)
Jean Quackenbush Strickland Endowment was started in 2000 when the class of 1950 celebrated their 50th reunion, and was named for Jean after her death in 2005. The interest from this fund will go to help a deserving student with tuition costs at SVA. (4/15/2000)
Herbert A. Copenhaver Science Endowment was established by friends of Herb after his death in February 2000 to pay tribute to his many years of teaching chemistry and biology at SVA (1967-1989). Herb was a graduate of the class of 1960. (2/29/2000)
Kathleen Wu Facemire Basketball Endowment was established by friends and family of Kathleen after her death in 1999. Kathleen was a graduate of the class of 1987. The interest from this fund will help students pay for activities related to being on the basketball team. (12/6/2000)
Earnest and Louise Thompson Worthy Student Endowment was established by Richard Thompson, class of 1977, in memory and in honor of his parents, who valued and supported Christian education. (1/31/2001)
Julia Kay Blair Mission Endowment was established by the Blair family in Julia’s memory and to recognize her love for mission service. Julia was a graduate of the class of 1997 and had her first taste of mission experience during her senior year when she traveled to Romania with a group from SVA. The interest from this fund will help current SVA students with expenses involved in going on a foreign mission trip. (2/17/2001)
Edna Stoneburner Basketball Endowment was established as a result of Edna’s love of the sport and her faithfulness in attending SVA’s basketball games. The interest from this fund will help students pay for activities related to being on the basketball team at SVA. (3/30/2002)
Josef Spencer Music Endowment was established in 2002 as a scholarship fund to help students who are gifted in musical talent. (6/11/2002)
John Minesinger Worthy Student Endowment was established at the death of John Minesinger and assists students with tuition costs at SVA. (12/18/2002)
Luray SDA Church Endowment was established by the members of the Luray, Virginia, church to assist students from that church with tuition at SVA. (2/1/2003)
Claoma Suhrie Fearing Endowment was established in memory of Claoma, a graduate of the class of 1947, by her husband, Richard, to provide tuition assistance to Seniors at SVA. (4/1/2003)
Class of 1974 Endowment was established in 2004 at the 30th reunion of the class of 1974 in order to help deserving students with tuition assistance at SVA. (4/10/2004)
Allan Blackburn Sportsmanship Endowment was established in 2005 at the 40th reunion of the class of 1965 to honor classmate Allan Blackburn and to recognize his exemplary sportsmanship. (11/11/2005)
Catherina Buys Worthy Student Endowment was established in 2005 to assist students with tuition costs at SVA. (11/1/2005)
Excellentia Worthy Student Endowment (Latin meaning excellence, upward, and onward) was established in 2005 to assist students with tuition costs at SVA. (12/29/2005)
Pearl Deiter Worthy Student Endowment was established in 2006 to pay tribute to Pearl Dieter, former school matron at SVA from 1942 to 1957. (6/12/2006)
Chuck and Sarah Jane Liers Worthy Student Endowment was established during alumni weekend 2007 and started by the class of 1987 to pay tribute to Chuck and Sarah Jane. No criteria established as of 6/2008. (4/15/2007)
Frank Show Worthy Student Endowment was established in 2007 to honor Dr. Shaw’s commitment to medicine. (10/31/2007)
Jason Liu Sports Endowment ($5,000) was established in 2007 by Jason Liu, class of 1993. (12/21/2007)
Don and Becky Feltman Baseball Endowment ($75,000) was established in 2008 by Don and Becky Feltman to award scholarships to students on the baseball team. (5/6/2008)
Math Endowment scholarships are awarded to the student(s) who win SVA’s Annual Mathematics Contest for prospective freshmen during Academy Days. (10/29/98)
Jean D. Hicks Alexander Endowment ($10,000) established in 2009 by the family of Jean, a graduate of the class of 1973.
Class of 2009 Endowment was established by the graduating class of 2009, with the interest to go to any student who is a child of members of that class.
Paul and Doris Blaser Riley Endowment established by the children of Paul and Doris in 2010.
Kent Sterling Grimm Endowment was established by the graduating class of 2011 in memory of their classmate who died in a motorcycle accident just one month before graduation. Interest from this fund will go to students interested in studying welding or auto mechanics.

General Endowment was started in 2/4/87
Opal Hoover Endowment was started 4/84, with the interest to be used to help students in every day expenses such as personal care needs, trips, or other activities in order to enable them to experience SVA to the fullest.
Ural Koppel Memorial Endowment was started 6/30/91, with the interest to be used for foreign mission trips.
Wilford D. Meyers Jr. Mission Endowment was started 10/9/95, with the interest to be used for mission trips.
Wilford D. Meyers Tuition Endowment was started in 1995 and the interest is to go to students who are baptized members of the Potomac Conference of SDA.
Arliene N. Meyers Campus Beautification Endowment was started 6/30/91 with the interest to be used to beautify the campus of SVA.
ENSIBS Endowment (held at Potomac Conference) and started 7/21/99.
GHRoW Foundation (held by the GHRoW Foundation and awarded to SVA students).
Transportation Endowment was started by Bill Strickland on 12/31/04 with the purpose of helping replace SVA’s transportation vehicles.
Doris Sweeney Memorial Fund established 3/90 (gifts to this fund are now being directed to the Capital Campaign as per request of the family).
