Our Philosophy of Technology

We view technology as a valuable tool for learning, creativity, and growth. In today’s digital world, students must develop both digital skills and responsible habits. We emphasize thoughtful, balanced use of technology to support academic success and prepare students to engage ethically and meaningfully in a connected world.

Technology in the Classroom

SVA equips students with the tools and skills needed for success in a digital age. Teachers incorporate current technologies in ways that enhance instruction and encourage engagement.

Students use technology to:

  • Research topics for projects and papers
  • Collaborate on group work using digital platforms
  • Present their learning through multimedia tools

With over 115 computers in five labs and 60 Chromebooks available, students have ample access to technology for learning and collaboration.

Cell Phones & Personal Devices

In a world dominated by social media, constant notifications, and endless scrolling, research continues to show the toll this digital noise takes on mental health, social development, and academic focus.  We want our students to be creators, not consumers—innovators who think deeply, connect meaningfully, and live intentionally.

That’s why we set clear boundaries around personal device use on campus. These boundaries aren't about restriction—they’re about freedom: freedom to focus, to be fully present, and to engage in real-world relationships and learning without distraction. By minimizing the influence of personal screens, we help students build healthier habits, stronger minds, and deeper spiritual lives.

With these goals in mind, SVA maintains the policy that personal smartphones are not permitted on campus. Instead, students may only use Gabb phones, which allow basic communication without unlimited internet browsing and social media apps. Learn more at gabb.com.
