Several types of financial aid are available to SVA students based on academic qualifications and financial need. To apply, please print and fill out the following document to apply for student aid. After completion, please fax, mail, or email a copy of the document along with your most recent IRS 1040 income tax return (after April 15, 2019 please attach your 2018 1040 form) Thank you.
Applicants for financial aid are required to submit standardized test scores, such as SSAT, ITBS, PSAT, PLAN, or scores from other standardized exams. Copies of scores from these exams should be sent to the Director of Admissions at SVA.
The following types of financial aid and scholarships may be available to SVA students:
Academic Scholarships (Renewable each semester)
Academic scholarships for new students are awarded based on transcript GPAs from the previous school year; for current SVA students, the awards are based on the GPA for the first semester of the previous year.
GPA from 3.75 – 4.0 $1,500 per year $750 per year
GPA from 3.50 – 3.74 $1,250 per year $625 per year
GPA from 3.25 – 3.49 $1000 per year $500 per year
Leadership Scholarships (new students only)
Leadership scholarships will be given to NEW students for class offices held during their previous school year:
President--$500; All other offices--$250
GHRoW Foundation Scholarship
The GHRoW Foundation awards multiple scholarships each year to qualified students with financial need, who attend Shenandoah Valley Academy. The board of trustees is comprised of SVA alumni spanning seven decades. If your child meets the qualifications outlined on the scholarship application below, please apply by completing the application and returning it to Cindy Champion, Student Accounts Manager, along with the typed essay by January 31, 2019.
Other Scholarships (for new students only)
A variety of other scholarships are awarded during Academy Days to new students. These scholarships range from $100 to $1,500 for the year awarded. Categories of such scholarships include Bible Knowledge, Math skills, Writing abilities, Leadership, Music, and Athletics. SVA will match 50 percent of the gross earnings of students that have worked at SDA summer camps. Camp wages sent and applied on your SVA account will be matched at 50 percent.
Approximately one-half of our students receive Student Aid and the average amount is 25 percent of total costs. Several types of financial aid are available to SVA students based on academic qualifications and financial need. If applying for financial aid, parents are required to submit the SVA Application for Student Aid to our Business Office along with the first two pages of your federal 1040 form (applications are available by mail or online at our website).
Church Two-way Matching Student Aid
Students may apply to their church for a two-way matching scholarship. SVA will match funds received from a church up to $1,500 for dorm students making a possible scholarship of $3,000.00 or $750.00 for community students making a possible scholarship of $1,500.00. This student aid is renewable each year.
